Are You Ready for a Credit
|
Also, before applying for a credit card, you must check your own
finances and see if you can handle a credit card. Remember, a credit
card is a loan you require to repay back in the future. If you use your
brand new credit card to go on a small shopping spree every now and then,
it can end up in a downward spiral if you're not careful.
When it comes to filling out an application form, applying online for a
credit card offers convenience and other advantages over printed
application forms. It's just a matter of pounding at your keyboard and
clicking those checkboxes. No manual, long-hand writing each letter of
your name in those annoying boxes.
The first thing a credit card company does in processing application
is your compliance with all the requirements set by a credit card
issuer. The credit card firm will check your income ranges, age and
current addresses.
You should also expect to have your credit ratings given a thorough
review, to establish if you pose any risk. Such a check will include
your ability to remain consistent with monthly rental payments or
repayments and mortgage or loan profiles. Credit card providers will
also check details such as delayed payments on recent or previous cards,
utility bills or loans, and the number of rejected applications, if any.
The company can also verify your address and even the county court to
find any judgments against or records on you. So, if you've moved, make
sure that you indicate correct information on your previous place of
residence, including when and how long you stayed at your former
address.
Interest and other charges. Since borrowing entails charges,
before filling out any application you should make an exhaustive review
of all terms and conditions related to your application, across
different credit cards. Among the key terms are the annual percentage
rate, the free or grace period, transaction and annual fees, and
adjusted and previous balances.
Secure application. Telephone and internet-based processing have
made credit card applications more convenient. But as a security
measure, you should exercise caution in providing your social security
number and other personal information. Make sure also that the issuer
applies a secure server in their application process.
Read the fine print. You always need to check the small print of
everything that you sign. And if you find something that doesn't look
right or looks to good to be true, then you can refuse to sign the form.
When you still have specific questions you can always call the company's
helpdesk or send e-mail to get answers.
Your credit history. You should realize that low interest
providers are more likely to impose a higher number of restrictions and
possibly accept only individuals with perfect credit histories. If you
have less than perfect credit history, then it is unlikely that you can
stroll into your local bank and ask for a credit card. But you can
always shop around to find the credit card with a higher APR.
Did you remember your goals why you're getting that
credit card in the
first place? Are you sure that you can handle the bill every time it
arrives in your mailbox? If you plan well before a credit card
application process you'll get the maximum benefits of the plastic money
in the long run.
